The Judicial Training, Research and Information Institute has released its 26th independent research publication titled “The Structure and Methodology of Drafting First Instance Criminal Court Judgments”, intended as a guide for judges, legal professionals, researchers, and lawyers.

Decisions made by courts of first instance in criminal cases directly affect human rights and freedoms, and have significant legal consequences in terms of imposing criminal liability. Therefore, the structure, clarity, and legal basis of such decisions are crucial in ensuring their lawfulness and legitimacy.

This comparative research, jointly developed by researchers from the Criminal Law, Constitutional Law, and International Law sectors of the Judicial Training Institute, examines the objectives and significance of adjudicating and documenting criminal case decisions. It also explores the key considerations in drafting such decisions, comparing the practices of countries belonging to both the civil law and common law systems.
